Every year, thousands of promising research ideas are born in dissertations, final-year projects and late-night experiments — and most of them go no further. Today, we are doing something about that. We are proud to announce the launch of the Intelligent Computing Research Group (ICResG): an open, cross-institutional research community built to carry good ideas beyond the dissertation and into publications, software, datasets and real-world innovation.
01Why ICResG exists
Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science are reshaping healthcare, education, agriculture, transportation and governance. Yet a familiar pattern repeats across universities everywhere: brilliant undergraduate and postgraduate work is completed, graded — and then archived on a personal hard drive, never to be developed again.
The reasons are rarely a lack of talent. They are a lack of mentorship, collaboration opportunities, technical support and exposure to the publication and innovation process. ICResG was established to close exactly that gap.

02How ideas become impact
At the heart of the group is a simple, five-stage journey. A member arrives with an idea — a dissertation, a concept, an observed problem. A team forms around it, mentors and skills are matched, and the idea is developed, validated through peer review and critical refinement, and finally released into the world.
Every stage is supported by mentorship, peer learning and shared accountability. Within research teams, this journey follows a disciplined, iterative workflow — from problem identification and literature framing through design, development and evaluation, to dissemination — with findings routinely feeding the next cycle of enquiry.

These themes are deliberately open rather than exclusive: projects frequently span two or more areas, and members are encouraged to propose emerging directions beyond those listed.
04Who can join
Membership is open to anyone with a genuine interest in computing research — irrespective of institution or location. HND graduates, bachelor's degree holders, postgraduate students, academic staff, researchers and industry professionals are all welcome. What we ask for is simple: a suitable laptop, reliable internet access, a commitment to continuous learning, willingness to actively contribute, and respect for teamwork, deadlines and ethical research practices.
Contribution over credentials
Academic qualifications alone do not determine a member's value within ICResG. Contributions, commitment and willingness to learn are the foundation of participation.
05A different kind of authorship culture
One principle sets ICResG apart, and we want to be upfront about it: membership alone never confers authorship. The group follows a strictly contribution-based authorship model — recognition is earned through meaningful intellectual and technical contributions, whether that is research conception, literature and theory, data preparation, algorithms and implementation, experimentation, analysis, manuscript preparation or critical review.
Members who do not make substantial contributions to a given output may receive appropriate acknowledgment, but not authorship. This keeps every publication, software solution, dataset and prototype honest — and ensures fairness, transparency and academic integrity across everything the group produces.
06What to expect from us
Through its teams and projects, ICResG aims to produce a balanced portfolio of outputs: peer-reviewed journal publications, conference papers, technical reports and collaborative research proposals on the scholarly side; open-source software, AI models, research datasets and prototypes on the practical side; workshops, seminars and training programmes to build capacity; and technology solutions that address real-world challenges.
Our culture rests on eight commitments: collaboration over competition, practical learning through real research, merit-based recognition, academic integrity in every output, accountability, open communication, continuous improvement and excellence in research.
